FREIGHT COUNTRY
How Deorwine Built a Full-Stack Freight TMS That Replaced Manual Operations with an Automated, Real-Time Platform
Freight Country is a US-based road-freight and trucking marketplace that needed more than off-the-shelf software, they needed a custom transportation management system (TMS) that could connect shippers and vetted carriers, automate the entire load lifecycle end to end, and scale with growing shipment volume. Deorwine Infotech served as their complete product and technology partner: product design, full-stack engineering, mobile development, compliance integrations, and ongoing iteration all under one roof.

Overview
Freight Country is a technology-first freight company serving the road-freight and trucking market in the United States. Unlike traditional logistics software, its platform operates simultaneously as a two-sided marketplace where shippers and vetted carriers transact directly and as a full transportation management system (TMS), governing every step of the load lifecycle from creation through delivery to final financial settlement.
Deorwine Infotech was brought in as Freight Country's complete product and technology partner. Our scope covered UX/UI product design, full-stack engineering using a Next.js frontend and FastAPI Python backend, real-time infrastructure, third-party integrations across payments, mapping, compliance, accounting, and messaging, database architecture, DevOps and containerization, and ongoing feature development including a complete load-overview redesign and responsive UI improvements.
How Long Did It Take to Build a Freight Country?
The Freight Country platform was built in structured phases over approximately 14 months, with Deorwine continuing as an ongoing development partner post-launch.

Who Built Freight Country?
One of the most common questions from prospective clients: "Can your team actually handle a project this complex?"
Here is exactly who worked on Freight Country:
What Problem Did Freight Country Need to Solve?
Freight Country's brief was to replace a fragmented, manual operation with one unified platform that could scale with shipment volume while improving speed, transparency, and control across all stakeholder types shippers, carriers, drivers, and admins.
Operational goals
Run the entire load lifecycle creation, carrier assignment, dispatch, tracking, delivery, and settlement inside one system, with a central admin console controlling users, roles, and configuration.
Automation goals
Eliminate manual handoffs by automating carrier matching, offer/counter-offer workflows, status transitions, invoice generation, and payment reconciliation.
Scaling requirements
Build on a layered architecture capable of supporting a growing carrier network, increasing load volumes, and new feature rollouts without re-platforming.
Tracking & visibility needs
Provide live GPS fleet tracking, shareable public tracking links for end customers, and real-time status updates across all user roles.
Reporting requirements
Give admins, shippers, and carriers role-specific dashboards with statistics, load histories, configurable master data, and exportable reports.
Many integrations, one coherent UX
Deliver a clean, role-aware interface for all six user types Shipper, Sub-Shipper, Carrier, Sub-Carrier, Admin, and Sub-Admin where each sees exactly what they need and nothing they don't.
Why Freight Country Didn't Choose an
Off-the-Shelf TMS
Before engaging Deorwine, Freight Country evaluated existing transportation management software. Standard platforms couldn't support their core requirements:
Real-time public tracking for end customers
shareable live-tracking links for shippers' customers are rarely a feature in back-office TMS tools
True multi-role architecture
with six distinct user types (Shipper, Sub-Shipper, Carrier, Sub-Carrier, Admin, Sub-Admin) each needing different data views and permissions, no generic platform could accommodate the required access control model.
Freight factoring integration
managing freight factoring alongside invoicing and settlement inside the load lifecycle required custom financial logic.

Carrier marketplace workflows
off-the-shelf TMS tools manage shipments; they don't facilitate carrier discovery, offer negotiation, or two-sided marketplace dynamics.
Embedded payments with freight factoring
most TMS platforms either lack payment processing entirely or rely on separate billing tools that don't integrate with load status.
Custom FMCSA/USDOT
compliance workflows, carrier vetting, COI tracking, and SAFER verification had to be native to the platform, not manually managed in spreadsheets.
The Hard Engineering Problems We Solved
A platform that handles money, real-time location, compliance, and multiple user types in one workflow surfaces challenges that a standard CRUD application never encounters.

One Connected Freight Operating System
Deorwine designed and built a single platform with three role-aware experiences on top of a shared, layered backend turning a manual operation into an automated, observable, and scalable system.
Layered, scalable architecture
A clean Router → Service → Repository → ORM backend on FastAPI, with a component-driven Next.js frontend — easy to extend, test, and scale feature by feature without architectural rework.

Driver Mobile Application (Flutter - iOS & Android)
The driver mobile app is the field execution layer of the platform. It is built in Flutter, delivering a single codebase for both iOS and Android, with offline resilience for routes with poor connectivity.

Features of the Freight Country Transportation Management System
A deep feature set spanning the full freight lifecycle, grounded in 115+ API modules and 100+ data entities.
Freight Load Management Software
Full load posting with pickups, multi-stop deliveries, commodities, dimensions, and weights. Complete order lifecycle with status transitions, fulfillment steps, accessorial charges, load configuration, and financial totals. The state machine-driven load engine eliminates manual handoffs and ensures every status change triggers the correct downstream actions from notifications to invoice updates.
Freight Payment and Invoice Management
Multi-gateway payment processing via Stripe, BondQuest, and Cardknox. Carrier wallets with holds and payouts, shipper invoicing with line-item breakdown, automated settlement on delivery confirmation, freight factoring support, and full QuickBooks sync all operating inside the load lifecycle rather than in a separate billing system.
Freight Analytics and Reporting Dashboard
Role-specific dashboards give admins, shippers, and carriers the data they need: load statistics, delivery rates, payment histories, carrier performance metrics, expired loads, and configurable master data reports. Sub-user management means managers can grant granular access to team members without exposing sensitive financial or operational data.
Carrier Onboarding and Vetting Software
Integrated USDOT/MC lookup and FMCSA SAFER verification confirms carrier legitimacy at point of onboarding. Certificate of Insurance (COI) tracking ensures insurance is current before a carrier can accept loads. Ratings and reviews for both shippers and carriers build a trust layer that improves match quality over time.
Fleet and Freight Tracking Software
Live GPS fleet tracking displayed on an interactive Google Maps layer, visible to all relevant parties in real time. Shareable public tracking links give shippers' customers live visibility without requiring a platform login. In-app real-time chat between shipper, carrier, driver, and admin ensures every party is always informed.
Driver Mobile App (Flutter — iOS & Android)
The field execution layer of the platform. Built in Flutter for a single shared codebase across iOS and Android, with offline resilience for routes with poor connectivity. Drivers can accept loads, update statuses, capture signatures, upload documents, navigate via integrated maps, and chat with dispatch all syncing instantly with the web platform when connectivity is restored.
What makes Freight Country different from a typical TMS
Most TMS platforms manage shipments. Freight Country combines marketplace, execution, finance, and compliance into one system.

Marketplace + TMS in one
It is not just a back-office TMS — it is a two-sided network where shippers and vetted carriers transact directly, with offers and negotiation built in.
Compliance baked into matching
FMCSA/USDOT SAFER verification and insurance tracking are native, so trust and safety aren't a manual afterthought.
Finance is a first-class citizen
Wallets, multi-gateway payments, invoice settlement, freight factoring, and QuickBooks sync live inside the load lifecycle — not in a separate billing tool.
Real-time by design
Live chat, GPS tracking, and instant notifications are core infrastructure, giving every party — including the end customer — a live view.
True multi-role depth
Six roles with delegated sub-users and granular permissions model real freight org structures, not a single generic "user".
Built to scale & extend
A clean layered architecture over 100+ entities and 115+ API modules means new features ship without re-platforming
